Easy Tips for Youthful Skin
Reviewed by Jaimee Gooley, R.D. Written by Hannah Marchese |
When you’re young, it seems like you’ll have perfect skin forever. Kids and people in their early teens typically have beautiful, glowing skin, without using skincare products or drinking a daily cup of green juice.
Some might call it magic, others simply chalk it up to youth. Either way, it’s definitely not fair. Did we really need perfect skin all through braces and puberty when we were already awkward-looking?
Even after puberty, people (women especially) can have a lot of skin issues. Hormonal acne, for one, can affect women from the time they’re 20 until after menopause (ugh!).
We aren’t saying young people don’t have their share of skin problems.
Puberty can cause a lot of acne issues for many, if not all, teens. In general, though, young people seem to have the best, most amazing skin. Skin that can’t be replicated no matter how many facials or products you use.
The good news is, you can come pretty close to achieving the skin of your youth. There are tons of tips and tricks for maintaining good skin health, which will preserve your youthful skin in the long run, while preventing signs of early aging.
Let’s be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with aging or having skin problems. But if these issues bother you, we want to help you feel more comfortable in your skin. Let’s go over some easy tips for youthful skin!

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated
We know, we know. You’re tired of hearing every celebrity attributing their beautiful glow to lots and lots of water, and nothing else!
We can’t say we fully believe them when they say they owe it all to water, but maybe they are onto something with this whole ‘staying hydrated’ thing. While there’s no way that water alone can give you perfect skin, it can definitely help with a ton of different issues.
One of the reasons that water is so important is that it delivers nutrients to our cells. Some of these nutrients are the same nutrients responsible for helping our skin glow!
Plus, when you’re hydrated, you sleep better, have a better mood, and your organs can function properly. When you’re dehydrated, so is everything inside your body.
It can definitely be hard to stay on top of drinking water, especially if you’re busy throughout the day. If you aren’t water-obsessed, drinking water can feel like a total chore. It’s no fun forcing yourself to drink it, either.
Our best advice is to bring a bottle of water with you everywhere (literally, everywhere). If you go out to run errands, go to an appointment, or are sitting at a desk working, have water with you.
Some people like to use water bottles that have time markers to tell them when to drink more water. If you’re someone who likes a schedule or who needs a gentle nudge, these can be super helpful.
Tip #2: Take a Collagen Supplement
You’ve probably heard about collagen by now. It’s one of the most popular supplements available, and for good reason.
There’s a whole bunch of amazing benefits you get when you take collagen, but we’re focusing on how collagen affects aging skin — aka, keeps it looking young and fresh.
Collagen is a protein that’s made up of amino acids. These amino acids act as building blocks for different things in our bodies. They pretty much help with any sort of ‘building’ that needs to be done.
When it comes to skin aging, collagen is going to be your new best friend. Collagen helps to hydrate the skin, improve elasticity, and reduce wrinkles.
Seems too good to be true, right?
Well, we promise, it’s not.
Collagen really does work wonders for our skin in more ways than one. The best part about collagen is that you can take it in a convenient and delicious supplement form (keyword delicious).
That’s where Kalumi BEAUTYfood bars come in!
We have two options for you to choose from. The first is our marine collagen bar, which comes in four different flavors (almond butter chocolate chip, lemon, chocolate, and sweet potato pie).
Each bar is packed with 11-13 grams of protein, 8 grams of marine collagen (the cleanest type), and other beauty-boosting ingredients such as sweet potato and cocoa butter. Plus, they are non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free.
The second option is our collagen powder. It’s the same marine collagen we use in our bars, just in powder form. This makes it convenient to add it to drinks or smoothies. You can even try baking with it to add a collagen boost to your favorite healthy goodies.
It’s unflavored so If you need a quick collagen fix, you can even just mix it into a glass of water. Talk about killing two birds with one stone— a hydration and collagen boost!
Seriously, your body (and skin!) will thank you.
Tip #3: Invest in High-Quality Skincare
The saying is true: you get what you pay for. That’s not to say a $400 cream will work better than, say, a $50 one.
You definitely do not have to break the bank when it comes to skincare.
However, extremely cheap and poorly made drugstore products are not always the best for your skin. It’s all about finding the right products for your specific skin type. You want to have a skincare routine that you stick to and follow each day.
This doesn’t have to be a ten-step routine with all the bells and whistles.
At the minimum, your skincare routine should include a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF (for the morning). We can’t stress this enough: wear your sunscreen every single day. If you want to prevent sun spots and wrinkles, it’s the absolute best way to do so.
Another product that can really help with anti-aging is retinol. This helps with the cell turnover process. It can work to prevent wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and even adult acne.
Be warned, it’s a very strong product.
Typically, you want to start out using it only once per week. Eventually, you can build up your tolerance to every other day or every day. It makes your skin sensitive to the sun, so, again, wear your sunscreen!
Conclusion
Aging is not a bad thing. It’s natural and it’s beautiful.
You should always celebrate the skin you’re in, no matter what it looks like. However, if you are feeling less confident because of blemishes or skin issues, there’s nothing wrong with doing everything you can to work on perfecting your skin!
Drinking tons of water, eating clean and adding a collagen supplement, and avoiding sugar are the best ways to preserve your youthful skin.
You can also go see a dermatologist and have them recommend products for you to use and treatments such as facials. At the end of the day, don’t worry too much. Our skin is meant to age.
Doing all of the things we mentioned in this article will simply help your skin to age more gracefully. Plus, the important thing is that you have healthy skin.
