Kalumi Chats With Jordan Younger
This month Kalumi chats with Jordan Younger- wellness blogger, podcaster, and author. Jordan talks all things health, wellness, and fitness, and shares her pro tips on how to stay healthy and glowing on the go! We'll take all the advice this wellness guru has to offer!
"Nothing is off limits on my podcast!! I include everything... from my professional life to very personal elements of my life."
Where do you call home? Where did you grow up?
I currently live in Brentwood, Los Angeles with my fiancé and my snuggly perfect kitty Hudson! I grew up in Sacramento, CA and have lived in NY, Florence, and now LA for the last almost 10 years... love it here!
What inspired you to become a blogger and podcaster?
My brand was born out of all of my greatest passions... wellness, writing, yoga, connecting with people, healthy recipes, fitness, and the list goes on. I started my blog as a hobby five and a half years ago. I started blogging full-time a year after that. I started my podcast two years ago because I was itching for a new way to connect with my audience, and I can definitely report back that podcasts are the most personal way to connect. Writing is an amazing way too, so the blog will always have my heart as well!
"Everyone has an opinion. Being so public in the online space the biggest thing I have learned is how to shield myself energetically."
What aspects of your life do you include in your podcast and how do you choose with inspirational people to chat with?
Nothing is off limits on my podcast!! I include everything... from my professional life to very personal elements of my life. I have had to learn to scale back from HOW much I share actually, haha, because I found that I was telling my audience very intimate things about me before I was even telling my friends or family. I share everything from living with chronic Lyme disease to planning a wedding currently (yay!!) to finding a balanced and intuitive way of eating (mostly) plant-based after a wild ride with food. I also love to highlight my guests and their stories. I choose my guests intuitively and stick mainly to friends and people I know personally... my podcast is pretty different that way and I find that is makes for very (extra) deep conversation.
How do you balance work, life, family and social events?
Balance has been a struggle for me, that is for sure. When I first started my brand I worked 24/7. Every weekend night, every weekend day, you name it. ALL of the time. Mainly because I loved it and I believed so much in what I was growing. These days I find so much more happiness in the balance... I have scaled way back on how much I work. I am a big fan of Tim Ferriss' "The Four Hour Work Week" and all of the time management principles he shares. The biggest change I have made is... I put myself first, always. The people in my life are high up on that list too. A lot of things come on the list of importance to me before work now, and I love it that way.
"The biggest change I have made is... I put myself first, always."
What has been your hardest challenge growing your voice, blog, and podcast?
The hardest challenge is learning to drown out the noise. Everyone has an opinion. Being so public in the online space the biggest thing I have learned is how to shield myself energetically. I have learned that if someone has something negative to say (on my blog, Instagram, YouTube, podcast, ect.) it has a lot more to say about them than it does about me. I have learned to send compassion and love their way energetically rather than dwell on it. The Internet is a wild place to grow a brand and share your voice but I wouldn't trade it for the world, and all of the amazing people it has connected me to at the same time definitely help. :)
How do you stay fit and healthy when on the go?
I stay fit and healthy on the go by always keeping snacks on hand... I am a big green smoothie girl and you will never see me in the morning without a coconut milk matcha. I feel like I am always on the go right now especially healing from Lyme disease and at doctor's appointments 5 days out of the week. If I didn't keep snacks in my bag I would be a wreck. And I do yoga wherever I can... literally even in airports. It's one of my favorite things to do actually, HA!
What does your morning routine look like? What makes you look and feel your best throughout the day?
My morning routine is nice and simple right now. Roll out of bed, sit on my yoga mat, feel INTO my body, go through a meditation practice that is very dear to me right now (with all sorts of visualizations about healing my body, my future, all of it), do a little morning yoga, and then mosey into the kitchen to take enough supplements/medications for Lyme that it takes me a full 30 minutes to get through them all!! Carving out time for that has been an act of self-care in itself, because they do help me a lot. When I have time, I pop into my sauna (I have a solo pod in my house) for 30 minutes to an hour. Then I always have a coconut milk matcha and make a big, loaded green smoothie. Then I start the day. Oh, and I am usually blasting Trevor Hall music the whole time!
What does beauty mean to you?
BEAUTY to me is all about radiating from the inside out. It all starts within. A beautiful soul radiates outward; like you would not believe.
"Guilty pleasure is VANDERPUMP RULES; my favorite TV show, and a good healthy chocolate peanut butter cup!"
Tell us your #1 Beauty tip!
My #1 beauty tip is... take care of your insides, because they shine on the outside. If something is going wrong inside, whether it be your gut or your liver or your heart... it shows on the outside. Take care of your heart and soul and body first. :)
What is your guilty pleasure/ what do you do on a day off?
Guilty pleasure is VANDERPUMP RULES; my favorite TV show, and a good healthy chocolate peanut butter cup, but I don't consider that too guilty! On a day off I am always outside, always with my loves.
What’s next? What is your vision for your business and beyond?
SO MUCH!!! I am working on another book, a second memoir. It has my whole heart right now. I am also releasing YouTube videos again. Other than that just living life, healing, and planning a wedding. It is all very exciting!!
